Do Chor is a Bollywood blockbuster directed by Padmanabh in 1972 and produced by Raj Khosla. The movie is considered as one of the precious gems in the history of Hindi films. The star cast includes legendary Dharmendra, Tanuja, Shobhana Samarth, K N Singh and Jalal Agha. The movie did well on the box office after two successful Padmanabh films Imaan and Nalayak and the songs in the film also added to glory.
As the name suggests, Do Chor which stands for two thieves is based on the journey of two thieves who steal from the rich people out of a personal vendetta. Dharmendra as Tony in the film is accused of thievery going on in four particular rich houses in a particular way. The thief doesn’t touch anything else except one jewellery and leaves a swastika calling card. Tony is a famous thief so the obvious suspicion falls on him but he claims innocence. Struck by the surprise Tony starts finding out the real culprit to claim his innocence and bumps into Sandhya played by Tanuja, the real thief.
Sandhya tells her story to Tony and explains what has befell on her and her family after those rich men’s heinous misdeeds. Tony realises the divinity in the cause and agrees to help her in the quest. The movie is full of drama and twist. There is also the element of romance as the protagonists fall in love with each other.
The music was composed by R D Burman and features super hit Do Chor songs Meri Jaan Meri Jaan Kehna Mano, Chahe Raho Door Chahe Raho Paas and Mora Chhota Sa Balamwa by the most popular artist of that time Kishore Kumar and Lata Mangeshkar. The movie was released in 2005 by Shemaroo in DVD format. It is rated U and is in Hindi with English subtitles.
