Boston Suburban areas a good choice to run a business
BioTechs even with the latest news had shed over 1000 jobs two years ago, as it was reported by The Financial Times, WSJ, and Bloomberg that only 17 of the nearly 1300 BioTech firms were actually profitable. In 2002 the number of jobs were in the 30,000 range in Biotech. 600 layoffs came from Millennium Pharmaceuticals. And the VCs are were barely interested as they hardly even look at tech deals with all of them netting less than 3 Million in venture capital for computer software and less than 10 million in biotech in 2003. But that was then and this is now. Unemployment has dropped, money is flowing the fallout mortgage loans stopped bleeding and money is coming back for investment in all sectors. Nano and Biotech both good.
Small businesses are profitable again, college enrollment is up and we are seeing rebounding numbers in most all sectors. Boston suburbs areas are looking quite good again. Some of the largest suburb office parks which were under the gun as University, Cabot, Cummings, AMB, Canton, Northwest, Cross Point, South Shore, etc. were not seeing the attrition turn to the synergy and critical mass needed for ultimate sustainability? All this had many worried, but commerce and entrepreneurship will always find a way and they did as the buildings are starting to fill up again. Wee must count on the best and the brightest of the literary elite to make something out of nothing in the middle of being bombarded with regulators from every level of government trying to make everything, which is not equal, all the same never-the-less. God Bless them with Holly Sparklets water and wafers from Nabisco. And don't tell me I do not know what I am talking about because we have washed those delivery vans before showing up at the Catholic Church. If it were not for all the lawyers in Boston, everybody would be out of work? Just kidding, it is not quite that bad. Things are moving along, but a lot faster now than our last surveys of 2001 and 2003.
We believe that a small business with the right market mix can survive and thrive now and probably get a pretty good deal on office space too. If you can handle the Political Correctness and the lust for literary trivia, hey go for it, take their money, they want to spend it and the customer is always right, especially in Boston, just ask them if they know what they are talking about, Think on it.

Have you been searching for the perfect home-based business? I have spent nearly twenty-five years searching for the holy-grail of home-based businesses. Now this article is not about a business, but rather a system that Fortune 500 companies always use but it's rarely used by home-based businesses, affiliate or network marketing companies. And based on my experience, you should not even attempt a home-based affiliate or network marketing opportunity unless you use a system that almost guarantees you'll be successful.

Todays Chef, Tomorrows Restaurateur -- Startup Tips by Restaurant Consultants Inc

Breaking The Chains!
Everyday, customers and business owners are bombarded with billboards, logos, print and electronic ads from huge corporations. With annual ad budgets that are more than our businesses' SALES in an entire year, our small independent businesses are getting squeezed out of consumers minds (and wallets) more and more each year. But the good news is, there are ways to fight back and "break the chains":
The Number of Pages in the UFOC in Franchising is Still Growing Today
Today required franchise disclosure documents are over 200 pages generally. How many pages do you think the Uniform Franchise Offering Circular; UFOCs were 35 years ago for these ten-foot tall pillars of the franchising community like Kroc, Monhan and Rosenberg founded their companies? They were of course the founders of McDonalds, Domino's Pizza and Duncan Donuts.

Preparing to Launch Your Small Business
Small business owners often enter their field with great expectations. Unfortunately, reality strikes shortly afterwards. Here's how you can enter the entrepreneurial battle ground with confidence...
Mobile Detailing VS Fixed Site Detailers
Mobile detailers will find themselves with lots of competition even if they do not see them around town. There are also many fixed site detailers who specialize in wholesale detailing or the retail detail or both. Many fixed site detailers have accounts with new and used car dealerships. This provides them with lots of work. If they are good, they usually do prep work for all new cars at all the local dealerships or share the work with a couple of other detail shops, additionally there are always lots of used trade ins at new dealers and used car lots. If the shop is totally busy, obviously they: Have a great location, or Do extremely great quality, or Have very competitive rates, or all of these.
Presentations and Sales Automotive Detailers
Many auto detailers fall short in their sales presentations. I have often shopped the competition to see what their knowledge base was to gage their worthiness as a formidable competitor in the market place. What I have found is that many auto detailers lack the specific knowledge needed to help their business grow and to present themselves as experienced in their work to the customers.
Small Business Marketing Secrets: Look Like Sizzle, Be The Steak
You've heard marketing and advertising gurus quip, "Sell the sizzle, not the steak." Advertising initiatives best reach their target audience with benefits and the "wow" effect, not the value or features of their product or service. This may work well to get customers in the door. But once they're in, you better have some substance. How can you ensure you uphold the integrity of your business and still maintain the "Wow Effect"? It just takes well executed strategic steps for business AND personal development:
Job Costing - Do You Know How?
What's your job profitability? I meet with business owners every day that are unsure of their profitability at a company or job level. They "think" they are making money because they have a few dollars in their checking account. Having money in your checking account doesn't mean you are profitable. It might mean you haven't paid all the bills yet, so you have a little cash. Cash and profit are two different concepts. If you aren't profitable, you won't have longevity in your business.
Survival Tips For Your Small Business
No matter type of business you operate you've got to know how to keep your business alive during economic recessions. Anytime the cash flow in a business, large or small, starts to tighten up, the money management of that business has to be run as a "tight ship."
Home Based Franchise Case Study
Here is an interesting case study of a company, which franchised mobile car wash units. It started with the humblest of beginnings indeed. I can say that with complete knowledge because this is a company I started at age 12 years old. It was not until I was nearly 32 years old that we franchised my business. This franchise was great in concept but franchisees would not follow the system enough, they deviated from the plan in most cases. The franchisees that stayed with the plan did very well, the ones who did not, did okay, but could have done better.
Basic Psychology of Franchisee Ownership and Expansion
If you are a franchisee of a large franchise system; before you expand your franchise to include more stores there are some questions you might ask yourself. If, however, you bought your franchise to expand, grow and amass a small empire of your own, your franchisor will be the last person to stand in your way. Franchisors applaud those who are true entrepreneurs and believe in no limits. Your Franchisor will help you achieve your goals, even if they have to be the ones who push you over the top. No matter what your objectives are; for instance; To have a good paying job, more freedom, become rich or build a small empire; your franchisor is there for you in heart and soul. You must choose your destiny, keep them informed every step of the way and remember, the sky is not the limit, the ground is!
Predicting Business Retirement Satisfaction for Business Owners
Most business owners do not think of selling their companies as "retiring". Instead, these vital entrepreneurs see selling their business as a "transition." For most business owners this does not mean slowing down or endless days of rest and relaxation. Rather they see "retirement" as a new, active stage in their lives characterized by continued personal growth, personal reinvention and new beginnings in work and leisure.
Shopping For a Franchise
Shopping for a franchise is easy if you know what you are doing. You can choose between radio adverts, newspaper adverts, personal recommendation, Internet, or visit a franchise exhibition. Attending a franchise exhibition allows you to view and compare a variety of franchise possibilities. Keep in mind that exhibitors primarily want to sell their franchise systems. Before you attend, research what type of franchise best suits your investment limitations, experience, and goals.
