The Characteristics of a Winner
As kind of a hobby I like to watch people. Just kind of sit back and quietly watch how they react and respond to others and their environment. Through the course of this activity I've noticed a few things that the real winners in life seem to have in common. I'd like to point out a few of these characteristics for the purpose of reinforcing them. So without further delay or introductory verbiage... Winners have a pleasing attitude and personality. - Success seems to come more easily to those who have a pleasing personality. This is not to say that you should bend to everyone's wishes. Rather, develop an attitude that is respectful of other's opinions but true to your own beliefs. Be flexible - don't be so rigid that you can't accept another's opinion. Be willing, even eager, to learn from others. Changing your opinion in light of more facts is a sign of strength of character, not weakness. Winners are extremely teachable - but at the same time very much their own person. Winners control their emotions and guard against emotional responses. - You are susceptible to errors in judgment when you let your emotions get in the way. Of course, everything we do is done based somewhat on our emotions, but strong emotions have little place in decision making. Winners seem to understand this. Hold your emotions in check. Try to delay decisions if you are in an emotional state. Learn to ignore your emotions and use reasoning to arrive at your decisions, like winners. Winners bubble over with enthusiasm. - Enthusiasm works like a magnet - it draws people. It's a pleasing personality trait that people like to be a part of. It seems to be contagious - the people around you become enthusiastic, too, and become more cooperative. Enthusiasm! Get some on you. Winners focus on their strengths. - Focusing on your limitations lets those limitations make your decisions for you. Focusing on your strengths lets YOU make the decision. See the difference? Very few people concentrate on fully developing any of their strengths. This is where winners seem to have that winners edge. Along with this focus on their strengths winners also have a frightening (to losers) focus on their goals. Winners always know exactly where they're going. Winners work at developing themselves to their fullest potential by focusing on improving, not on being perfect. - Winners turn their focus toward improvements they can make to become more efficient. You'll note that most effective, successful people seem to accomplish a great deal. It is true that this is partly due to enthusiasm for what they're doing, but there's more to it. The more to it is their single minded determination to squeeze every ounce from themselves. Now I'm sure I haven't even come close to covering all of the characteristics of you real winners out there. As always, my intention here is to be a catalyst. I hope you'll take a step back and see how many of these characteristics you wear on a consistent basis. This puts yourself in position to either know that you are, or know what you could be working on to... BE A WINNER! Thanks for hanging out. Live some. Love some. Learn some. Everyday. C... Teachings of the Success Masters Authors such as Napoleon Hill have produced a great deal of writings that form the classic success philosophy of the early 1900s. Most of this material is as applicable today as it was back then, and forms the basis of the teachings of many modern success gurus. Here is a sampling of selections from those early success writers: What Constitutes a Good Life? The ultimate expression of life is not a paycheck. The ultimate expression of life is not a Mercedes. The ultimate expression of life is not a million dollars or a bank account or a home. Here's the ultimate expression of life in my opinion, and that is living the good life. Here's what we must ask constantly, "What for me would be a good life?" And you have to keep going over and over the list. A list including areas such as spirituality, economics, health, relationships and recreation. What would constitute a good life? I've got a short list. Who Else Wants to Keep Failing? The very first "motivational speaker" I heard as an adult was a gentleman named Mort Utley. I experienced his speech in May of 1989 in Nashville, Tennessee, at the end of a week of Sales School with the Southwestern Company. I was 19 years old and had just finished my freshman year at the University of Wisconsin, and Mr. Utley's speech was the final component of my formal training to sell educational books door-to-door for the summer. I was absolutely coming out of my skin with an indescribable combination of intense excitement and great fear. Mort Utley's speech made one of the most "un-motivational" statements I had ever heard. He said: Personal Development Legend Jim Rohn Turns 70 and Still Going Strong Jim Rohn, noted leader and speaker in the personal development industry, recently celebrated his 70th birthday in international style - 21 birthday cakes in 15 different cities. Three Proven Ways To Leverage the Big Power of Small Changes Successful people set ambitious goals. But the high standards and lofty visions necessary for great success can sometimes be daunting. Overcoming The Fear Of Money Many people, it seems, have a fear of money. Does the thought of having a lot of money make you uncomfortable? Cause you anxiety? If so, it may be that you are buying into the myths about money. Myths that are simply untrue. In fact, many of the most common statements about money are often misquoted, wrong, or were made by people who did not understand money ... or had none. Powering Up Your SUCCESS Mechanisms! The Core Curriculum Of A Wonderful Life An acquaintance of mine once lamented that she was utterly frustrated with her lack of progress toward her dreams, given her age. According to her outlook, if you hadn't made it by then, you weren't anywhere near as likely to do so afterwards. A very late bloomer indeed, she ranted, and going to seed before the blush was off the rose, to boot. Ouch. Fortunately, I didn't believe a word of it and now she is happily off proving herself wrong in many ways - but I digress.
