Canon City, Colorado is known for it's 6 Prisons; State and Federal, women's prison and juvenile. It is also home to the First Colorado Territorial Prison. Pictured here. Most of the people work for the prison system and it is the main employer of the town. This helps the local business community with high paying jobs. The small town has 7 new car dealerships and six used dealerships. Canon City is surrounded by several other smaller towns, which add quite a bit of people to the area. The surrounding cities are Florence, Lincoln Park, Royal Gorge, Brookside, Williamsburg, Rockvale, and Penrose. It is only 21 miles from West Pueblo. The large prison population do not have cars we can wash but all those guards do. And they work all kinds of different hours so there could be a 24 Hour Business there no problem. With nearly 28,000 total area residents this makes for a pretty good area to own a small business. Real Estate values have constantly climbed as well and so has the prison population over the years. Even several John Wayne Movies were filmed in the Royal Gorge area, as well as many modern day movies at the old prison, which is now a medium security prison and is in full use today. The Prison Museum is a must see and ranks up with Alcatraz Prison Museum and Folsom Prison Museum. http://www.prisonmuseum.org/ We also thought that Florence was an excellent Market.
